Osaka comes to the US Open with the goal of returning to the throne, but more importantly, she wants to contribute to her voice against the racism that is raging in America. During the journey at the US Open 2020, Osaka wore 7 different masks in each round. A special feature is that each mask has the name of an American victim of color, with a message against racism. The first mask printed with the name of Breonna Taylor – a black woman shot and killed by the police in Louisville, Kentucky. Followed by Elijah McClain, Trayvon Martin, Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Philando Castile and finally Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old black boy killed by police in Ohio in 2014.
