Despite a century of research and inquiry, the definition of giftedness remains unclear. People disagree over whether it should be measured in absolute or relative terms, whether there is a limit to the percentage of giftedness in humans, the gift to be cultivated, whether it has to be proven by achievement. or not, and whether it should include athletic ability. While no one has figured out how to identify potential babies that are not necessarily linked to perks at birth, school districts are starting to adopt strategies that include screening all children, not just those kids whose parents demand it, accepting promising students into gifted programs even if they miss testing deadlines, and expanding the number of gifted classes.
